Whenever I learn of a new YouTuber that uploaded a video about trolling, I'm amused but not impressed. The video below is an exception. It's less a trolling video and more an interactive comedy routine. I'll let you watch the video and then continue with my review.
Within the first few seconds I was impressed with his use of his webcam in the upper right corner of the screen. Too many tubers are afraid to show their faces in videos. The viewers want to connect with real people, and seeing TheGoonOnFire act out his character was brilliant.
The character in this video is a "scout for his clan". We learn this because he tells this to the real people in the game. This bit of information seems simple. Because most amateur creative types often underestimate the intelligence of the viewer, the result is an in-your-face explanation of the joke/short film/machinima etc. Not this guy.
It doesn't take long to get the joke. He's setting up a situation where the real players (or marks) will feel a sense of superiority over the lispy character portrayed. The real joke is on them in the same way that reality stars are the punchline because of their pretentious behavior. The Goon strikes a perfect comedic balance between his character, the setup, and execution.
I'll be watching more of videos and I recommend that everyone should do the same. at the time I'm writing this the video had 460 views and 39 likes.
